The fellowship of Christians who meet at Little Prairie Church is based on a shared faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. We believe that God is revealed in Holy Scripture as the source of spiritual truth. We also believe that God continues to open our hearts and minds by the Holy Spirit to apply God's Word to our current time and culture.
We are part of a larger fellowship in the United Methodist Church. The motto of the church is "Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds." We welcome everyone as equal before God, with all our doubts and fears, our opinions and attitudes, our hopes and dreams. We all stand under the cross in need of God's forgiving love. We all stand at the empty tomb, inviting us to new confidence in a future filled with God's blessing. We come together as humble servants of our Lord Jesus Christ, seeking to discover his mission for us in our time and place.
We work together to accomplish the mission statement of our larger church to "Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World," based on Jesus' words in Matthew 28:20: "Go, make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. And I will be with you always to the end of this age."
We strive to follow the servant-leadership of Jesus when he said, "Love one another as I have loved you." That challenge extends into concrete forms of service to the mental, physical, and spiritual needs of each other and our neighbors, locally and around the world.
We are a "destination church." People come from a wide area and a variety of Christian backgrounds because they find solid Biblical preaching and a deep connection with other Christians who are seeking to follow Jesus' call to a world in need of physical and spiritual healing.
A crucial part of Jesus' ministry on Earth was to bring healing and hope to those whose lives were broken. He associated with those who were social outcasts and accepted people where they were at in life. In the same way we have a variety of ministries that reach out to people in need. We help children from impoverished families in Honduras who need assistance to buy school uniforms and supplies for school so that they can stay in their homeland and become productive Christian citizens. We gather winter clothing in the fall, and school supplies and personal items in summer for the Lakota Sioux families on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. We regularly gather food and personal supplies for individuals and families at Twin Oaks Shelter for the Homeless near Delavan, WI. We support the East Troy Family Resource Center located in East Troy, WI, providing a variety of assistance. We provide emergency assistance for many individuals and families through our members' personal ministries. We are always open to new opportunities to serve our cummunity and the world as the hands of Christ.
Every Sunday we take time to connect with the others, sharing our joys and sorrows, with a strong sense of mutual care and concern. As the Bible described the early church, they wept with those in sorrow and celebrated with those in joy.
On the third Sunday of each month, we gather after worship for a time of fellowship in our lower level (chair lifts available). This is a special opportunity to share food and conversation. You will find a "family atmosphere" in which everyone is important and accepted. We have no dress code or expectation, remembering that Jesus accepted people as they were. We also have special events throughout the year such as Palm Sunday Brunch, Christmas Dinner and, Heritage Sunday when we look back at our 172 years of proclaiming God's grace at Little Prairie.
Sunday Morning, 9:00 AM
We gather for worship at our little country church at N9515 Palmyra Road, just off of Highway 67, north of Highway 20 and 12 and south of Eagle.
Our worship is a blend of traditional with contemporary. Our purpose is to glorify God with a mix of a formal order of worship that is interspersed with a relaxed informality. We sing "old, classic hymns" as well as modern songs. We take God's message and make it connect with the needs and hopes of each person. We follow each Sunday of the Church Year with its special message and meaning for our lives. Our goal is for everyone present to be touched by God in a way that blesses their lives. In a time when "traditional" churches are closing, we seek to redefine "Church" as a community of faith where, under God's guidance, we touch people's lives with Jesus' healing and hope for a life filled with divine purpose and meaning. We offer strength and peace to meet the joys and sorrows of life, filled with an eternal hope.
